Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then located multiple other vandalized cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police state preliminary tests suggest the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any harm in association with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for information.
An important political figure commented the incident rendered him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
