French authorities will start stopping small boats in Channel after British demands

French officials have consented to start stopping small boats in the English Channel, following an extended period of insistence from the UK.

The change in policy follows the Prime Minister wrote to the President urging him to support the plan and saying there presently "have no effective deterrent" in the Channel.

French security forces have been authorized to stop the small boats at sea, but only before they've collected their passengers, according to authoritative confirmation.

French authorities have infrequently acted to stop the heavily loaded boats leaving the coastline because it is viewed as excessively high a danger to both officers and individuals.

"It is essential that we deploy these methods this month... We have no effective prevention in the Channel waters."

Now, a French maritime police representative states officers will start intervening at sea, with the objective of safeguarding lives.

Notably, the spokesperson ruled out the use of nets to stop boats, which had previously been suggested as a possible method to snarl the propellers of the vessels.

The decision to intervene at all is a major advancement, coming after a brief change towards a stricter approach this warmer season, which ceased when the previous Interior Minister left government.

This was demonstrated in July, in the run-up to a meeting between the UK leader and French president, when French police were observed walking into the sea to damage the sides of a vessel.

Now French authorities will again be permitted to stop boats prior to they collect migrant passengers from the beaches of northern France, although it's uncertain how the small boats will be prevented.

Powerful gusts are presently delaying the start of intervention operations and the human trafficking gangs will be looking for ways to adapt to avoid detection, as they have frequently done in the past.

UK immigration authorities and Downing Street have been approached for response.
